American Orthopsychiatric Association Summer Symposium at the Cape Cod Institute
June 26-30, 2006
Helping Children Where They Are: Caring for Children in Schools, Health Clinics, Places of Worship, and Other Community Settings
From June 26-June 30th, Ortho members gathered in Cape Cod for invigorating workshops, discussions and award presentations as part of the Ortho Summer Symposium at the Cape Cod Institute, titled "Helping Children Where They Are: Caring for Children in Schools, Health Clinics, Places of Worship, and Other Community Settings". Against the backdrop of intermittent coastal rains, the Ortho board had an extremely productive meeting before the symposium began, and conference attendees enjoyed a number of opportunities to share skills and network during the meeting itself. Highlights of this year?s Ortho programming included the presentation of the Blanche L. Ittleson Award to Dr. Edward Zigler, for his pioneering efforts to develop school-based support for families of young children, as well as Ittleson Award Lectures by Dr. Joyce L. Epstein and Dr. Sandra L. Christenson. Awarded each year by Ortho, the Blanche L. Ittleson Award recognizes outstanding achievement in the delivery of children's services and the promotion of children's mental health.
We hope that you were able to attend and experience Ortho at the Cape Cod Institute for yourself. For those who could not attend, on this web page you will find the program - including abstracts from select presentations - as well as photos from the Ortho Cape Cod Institute.
Special thanks to all presenters and program reviewers for making the 2006 Ortho Symposium at the Cape Cod Institute a success!
Stay tuned for information on Ortho's 2007 Cape Cod Institute on the theme of trauma and violence. Details will be available in upcoming months on the Ortho website, www.AmerOrtho.org. We look forward to seeing you next summer!
